“It is much more about being–about allowing yourself to be as you are already and discovering the fullness and vast potential within such an approach.” ~Jon Kabat-Zinn
Jon Kabat-Zinn (my hero and big nerd crush) is the father of mindfulness meditation being accepted into western medicine. He found that the Zen meditative tradition of anchoring oneself into the present moment with non judgement, curiosity and awareness can heal neuroses, depression, and disease. Mindfulness can be practiced as a quiet meditation or in any actionable moment of the day to help alleviate the mind and body from the stresses and anxieties we experience as humans. Most of us spend the day on autopilot trying to get from one meeting to another, keep the people around us happy, and keep ourselves afloat; this is not conducive for growth. Healing happens when we become aware of what is going on inside.
If any moment is an opportunity for mindfulness, then I say let’s make it fun and delicious by bringing it into the kitchen. By slowing down, focusing, and becoming curious about baking/cooking, you can learn not only to prepare fantastic food, but create an opportunity for mindful meditation. I call this Mind Body Baking.
In Mind Body Baking you will give yourself the opportunity to:
- deal with the negative chatter that goes on in your head
- trust yourself in the kitchen and around food
- let go of your weight worries
- make insanely delicious and healthy food and go home with recipes
- reap the health benefits of meditation- (click here to hear Jon Kabat Zin talk about the benefits of mindfulness)
